Behind The Scenes

This was quite a jump into reality when the night before I was leaving for Parry Sound for my fathers funeral I was up most of the night putting together this slidesow. I had been collecting photos by email and scanning others and ended up with over 180 pictures altogether. It takes hours to organize, put in order, fix and prepare the photos. Then choosing the music to synchronize the final show is something that can really help tell the story. I didn't have the luxury of reviewing lyrics for hours to see which songs would best tell Peter's story. I had thought of a couple maybe but the others were yet to come. I still don't remember how I arrived with all 5 songs that were needed to support the 22 minute show... but they came.

The Music... the 5 songs used in this slideshow and why?

My Hometown - Bruce Springsteen

I love this song and after hundreds of listens I enjoy it even more. It's simple...When I inserted this one into place and hit play for the first time... I don't think I got past the first 2 photos of Nana's House and it all hit me... thinking of Parry Sound, childhood friends, family gatherings and the comfort of just coming home. The Lyrics

Looking Out For Number One - Bachman-Turner Overdrive

Peter was never into music too much and therefore I would have never guessed him and I would be at a concert together let alone a handful of them. The only one we ever went to alone was The Guess Who at the Ampitheater in Toronto. When Randy Bachman started into this jazz-like number Peter actually started to sing a few lines and turned to me saying " I can remmebr my dad humming this song... I can see him now doing it...like 1976 or something" There was a smile on his face and he was actually trying to pull off abit of a dance too.. funny stuff. Being the music lover i am..seeing him connect that moment and song with his dad while I stood there with him singing along live was a moment. Not too long after that Randy Bachman was in Scarborugh at a Chapters promoting his book "Tak'in Care Of Business" ...Peter happened to be there and asked him a few questions and got me a copy of his book signed. Awesome. The Lyrics

In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins

An epic song for the pop generation and one that Peter loved. He would always ask to rewind the Drum part in the song as the tempo picks up... I even saw an air-drum once I think. This song always found its way onto his walkman to work-out or one of his sedans with 12 speakers!
The Lyrics

I AM .... I SAID - Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond was a favourite of my dads for sure. I remember cruising to school a few times in Niagara Falls and hearing the song "America" ... it was funny to see him turn it up abit. I don't know why this song came to me... I searched out some Neil Diamond songs and this one came up and I remembered it having some emotion and after reading the powerful second verse I tossed this song in 4th spot for the slideshow. The Lyrics

Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon

My sister Michelle mentioned this song and after listening to it I remembered seeing a Warren Zevon special on producing his last album before he died to Cancer. He wrote most of the lyrics knowing he may not live. These are some stunning lyrics below. For the full song go here

shadows have fallen and I’m running out of breath
keep me in your heart for a while

If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for a while

when you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
keep me in your heart for a while

there’s a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
keep me in your heart for a while
