On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank all of you for your compassion and for being present here today. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Mike Schnurr, and I'm Peter’s brother. Peter was devoted to every one of his family and his many friends. We all hope that you'll share your memories of him with us, if not today then in the weeks and months to come.
Peter lived life to the fullest and was special to his family and friends. The family has received many emails and phone calls from people whose lives were positively influenced through their relationship with Peter.
Peter was extremely proud of his children. He marveled at how his grand-children seemed so smart and well behaved. Peter let on that it was his influence that made them that way but knew in his heart that it was the result of hard work and love exhibited by his own children and their spouses.
Several months ago, when I couldn't sleep, I turned on late-night TV and watched the songwriter/singer, Billy Joel, entertaining a college audience. Someone asked about a particular song, and he answered that it was written in response to a question his young daughter had asked about death. She wanted to know where people went when they died. He answered that they go into the hearts of the people who loved them. Just look into the eyes of the people sitting all around you. See my brother's loving kindness radiate outward from every face. My brother knew that we repair the world one person at a time.
Although Peter’s death was sudden and came as a shock to all of us, I know in my heart he would not want for us to spend forever grieving. Rather, Peter would want us all to remember our favorite moments we spent with him. So, if you would all just take a quick minute or two to think about a happy time shared with him.
Peter, I know we will see each other again. In the meantime, please do guide us as we live our life here on earth. Do watch over our kids and do protect them from harm. Peter, you will always be remembered and you will always live in our hearts for as long as we live.
Love Michael
Billy Joel - Lullaby (Good Night My Angel)
Good night my angel time to close you eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Where ever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away
*Verse 2*
Good night my angel now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me
(Musical Bridge)
Do do do do...
*Verse 3*
Goodnight my angel now it's time to dream
And dream how wondeful your life will be
Someday your child will cry and if you sing this lullaby
Then in your heart there will always be a part of me
Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabies go on and on
They never die that's how you and I will be
-Billy Joel
